hmmm....So I guess it comes down to two things:

1. Is "making" humans God's business
2. Or is it a desrved award for man's scientific progress.

I'm not really sure what Islam's take on cloning is, but personally, I tend to go with the second option.  During cloning, scientists do not actually "create" a lifeform.  They are just able to manipulate its properties, etc...

Cloning does have a lot of bads points though, and if it gets into the wrong hands, Star Wars: Ep II might just become a reality!

Salaam alaikum,

I dunno, after having given birth to 5 children, I kind of like the idea of cloning.   Sure would make it a lot easier on the mothers. :D

For obvious reasons, I haven’t got the slightest problem accepting the fact that in the near future humans will be able to create (clone) other human beings. Without dwelling on the ethical issues surrounding that matter,(would make a great thread, but would dilute this one) my question is how do the rest of you feel about it and what kind of impact it or will have on your belief system?

In my opinion, there is just certain things we should leave alone, and cloning is one of them.Soon they will be creating 'super humans' for the military and everything else.
I believe cloning would just bring even more greed and undeserved and misused power to the rulers in the world, which again would hurt civilians even more.
We also know that tampering with the nature will cause problems,it disturbs the natural prossesses...

Allah a3lam, but we will never reach the knowledge of Allah subhan wa ta3ala, our knowledge is limited and when anything is created from man by the power of Allah, there is always a good way to use it and a bad way to use it.

Take internet for example, people said not to create it because it would do more harm then good.  Allah gave us 3akal, so we have the choice on how to use the internet through good or bad means.

I don't know what the maraj3's position is on this issue.  If you would like put what you think are the pro's and con's of cloning.

well said :)

Thank you.

I believe you are against cloning is that right?

At present and without doing any further research I'd have to say that I'm not a fan of it. ;)

salams,

Intersting discussion. To be honest no matter how much scientists want to believe that they are creating human life (through cloning), they are only kidding themselves. At the end the main ingredients involved are all created by God, so really it's still all in Gods hand whether He gives life or not.

On the other hand, not all cloning is bad. If we can clone livers, kidneys etc... this will help lots of people unable to get transplants, and something good comes out of it.  :)

it is not true about the helping with the kidneys because when a clone is made it only lives for about 7yrs if lucky so it wont help proply

Thought I'd continue on this thread as it is really interesting.

That is too simple.Yes,we have a mind and heart,to jugde between what is right and wrong, but it is not always used the right way.
We also have gotten from The Creator, lets say, sexual desire,to reproduce and keep the humanrase from dying out(in a nutshell). Many uses this in the most horrible way and hurts and destroy others lifes.
We cant attribute this to The Giver nor can we forbid people from having a sexual relationship,so the arguement that we are able to use it in the way the original intention was doesnt really fit in to this discussion.
It can not be used as an arguement as to should we or shouldnt we.

I have read that cloning is not allowed, but havent really gotten any details on the subject.
I'll try to stir up something :)

salams

even if its just seven years it still helps. I mean wen sum1 has brain tumour, they wont survive for long, but they are still treated (eventhough the treatment only helps them to survive a bit). At the end of the day medicine is there to help and ease the pain. I mean there are ppl who had their eyes taken out coz they had tumours, they can never have a replacement eye, but maybe insha Allah in the future if an eye can be cloned those ppl will have some sort of hope. (btw i'm not for cloning humans, that's wrong, i just mean organs for those who have bad organs)
reza mohd
salam,

sister, is it possible to clone individual organs?  Sorry, but I don't really know much about medicine.  If it is possible though, it would solve lots of problems, which might be why it's not possible

hmmm...maybe I shouldn't have posted this.  :look:

lol

i believe they are working on trying to clone kidney's successfully at the moment................. :)

Wa Salam.

They say the closest organs related to humans is from a pig.  Are there any fatwas allowing a organ transplant from an animal to a human?
reza mohd
hmm

not sure about that one sister.  I believe it's more of a fiqh question than an ijtihad one.

I was listening to NPR on the radio (www.npr.org) today and they were talking about how in the future they would clone animals that we can eat.

They said in the future when it becomes inexpensive that reasturants would serve a cloned beaf steak.

How crazy.gif does that sound?

Sub7an'Allah then we would have new fatwas when that gets introduced.

Ma Salamah.
